Proud to have been at Pride!

Danielle made it out to help me with our table!
The Pride Parade and Carnival has come and gone, and it was a lot of fun (and a lot of stress). Danielle made a last minute trip up from W.V. to give me a hand with the event, and all the other little things that go with vending.

We were blessed to be a part of this amazing event to promote awareness in the community, and promote equality and tolerance.  And for the first year EVER there was not one protestor! AMAZING! Not one person was out to yell profane things or hold hateful signs to hassle the participants.

However, we weren't prepared for the beautiful weather that day. Sunny and 85 without a sun canopy for 7 hours meant our next stop was to the store for aloe vera gel! It was a bit hot and a bit bright, but not as beautiful as seeing all the couples walking around freely and enjoying themselves.

We had customers from all walks of life, and all shapes, sizes, and types. Sometimes eye blinding (there were several people that had put on every color of garment they owned and then some) it was so much fun to see how each individual expressed themselves in their clothing, accessories, and demeanor.

We were up until 2:30am the night before finishing products.

Thank you so much Toledo Pride for allowing us to be a part of the event. Without them creating a custom opportunity for us, we wouldn't have had the means to set up our small booth and share our products with everyone at the Carnival. You can still purchase a pride item through September 3rd and a portion of the purchase will be donated to Toledo Pride. Also, for those that asked for Rainbow Dreads, visit our sister company Dreadful Hair Creations to order a set and check prices!

3 Days Left For The Toledo Pride Promo!

www.toledopride.com
That's right! We are still running the Toledo Pride promotion! What does that mean?

Purchase any of our Rainbow or Pride jewelry (marked in our Etsy store as Pride, or in our Pride album on facebook) and 25% of the proceeds will be donated to Toledo Pride.

Toledo Pride is a local organization who strives to educate the community on issues surrounding the LGBT community. They promote other organizations and events that bring issues of equality and tolerance to light.

As a sponsor of Toledo Pride, and a business that supports general equality and tolerance across all cultures, we are extremely excited to be a part of the 2011 Toledo Pride Parade and Carnival. We hope that you will join us in supporting this amazing local organization and showing the LGBT community that they are supported in their struggle for equal rights and opportunities.
If you are in N.W. Ohio or S.E. Michigan please stop down and support this fantastic event. We will have our booth set up in the carnival if you would like to stop by, say hi, and browse the wares in person!

We are sponsoring the Toledo Pride Parade!

Here at Serenity in Chains we believe that all people should be treated equally, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Too often people that don't identify as "straight" are looked down upon, and discriminated against. This is wrong.

We believe the gender of your preferred partner should not exclude you from the basic human rights that 'everyone else' enjoys. The LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Community shouldn't have to be concerned that a potential employer wont hire them because of their personal beliefs and relationships, or shouldn't be able to get married simply because they love someone of the same gender.

All of us at Serenity in Chains understand this is controversial territory. We know not everyone thinks this way, but we hope that someday it will no longer be a contention.

To that effect we approached Toledo Pride some months ago with an exciting idea. We wanted to be a part of the efforts to stop discrimination and promote tolerance in our community and around the world. The great folks over at Toledo Pride were kind enough to help us create a custom opportunity that was attainable by our small business.

Through August 27th, we will be donating a portion of our proceeds from our Pride line of jewelry to Toledo Pride to help them fund the yearly awareness Parade, and other LGBT community events. We will also be vending at the Community Connection Carnival in Promenade Park on August 27th, where the parade will terminate.

We would like to invite you to be a part of this amazing, and fun event (seriously, who doesn't love a good drag queen show?). For more information about the Pride Parade 2011 please visit www.toledopride.com.

We are updating our inventory on our Facebook often, and not all of our Pride items are in our Etsy store. If you would like to purchase directly from our Facebook Page click here for how to do so!
